Holy hell I need to vent!!!!

Ok, I didn't want this to become a homeschool rant but I think it may very well turn into one. I just read an article by a "teacher" that called homeschooled kids, "geeky", and said it was selfish to keep them out of public schools, among other idiotic rants including, but not limited to,"God hates homeschoolers", and "as a teacher it pisses me off". Ok, so I guess I should send my kid to a school I don't want to so the rotten kids can see how to behave. And why not send her so she can sit in a room with 30 kids her age and be "socialized" properly instead of living in the real world and becoming comfortable interacting with people of all ages. Oh, all right. Or maybe I could realize that I live in the United States and I am lucky enough to have the freedom to homeschool. By the way, I unschool and if you really want to see people freak out, tell them you have no set curriculum, you do child-led learning, and you use the world as your classroom. I am just waiting to have DHS called on my by some idiot who thinks I am neglecting my kids. Um, no I am not, we are on our way to the library to check out 13 books about cats because that is what we want to learn about right now. I currently have 21 books at my house from our local library and they are all being read and used as reference. My kids will remember what they learn because it is something they are interested in and something THEY wanted to learn about. I will not force them to memorize dates and force irrelevant information on them just to have them regurgitate it back to me in a few days, then for get it forever. Sorry, that is not how this is going to go. Let me set the record straight so I don't get hate mail, or at least I might get less of it....I do not hate public schools. I respect the teachers that genuinely care about educating children and I know that homeschooling is not for everyone. I would never presume to tell someone how to raise their child and I expect the same. My kids are my business and your kids are your business. As long as no one is being hurt, it should stay that way. All right rant over.........P.S. I also don't vaccinate my kids anymore.....don't get me started on that.

  1. Good rant honey. I am in the same boat as you. In fact, I believe I read that article! I fallow k12 because I am in a high standard state, but we unschool our way throught most of the year. It works out. I wish I was brave enough to fully unschool. (I am afraid of the records)
I am tired of homeschooling always being under attack! If you go against the norm its frowned upon. I will say it- I hate public shcools. Not the teachers, not the schools but the parent who send their children to them. Why? Because they think it is up to the schools to teach them everything they need to know. They think its up to poorly paid teachers to raise their children. Ok I starting a rant now, sorry. Love your vent babe, I think everyone in the homeschool community would agree with it.
